Homework #4 Response

In "Everyone is Altered" by Josh Dickey, he discusses the patience, diligence, and hard work put into beauty work. He brings up the point that nobody looks the way we see them in movies or tv shows. Almost everyone has been retouched. Sometimes they take the face of a celebrity and put them on an entirely different body. Most of the time it’s more muscular. Not only are actors touched up, the objects around them have to look good as well.
Beauty artists find the eyes to be the most difficult thing to retouch. If they change too much, it can look like an entirely different person. Beauty artists have to make sure that someone isn’t changed to look too noticeably different. It’s a very hard job.

Homework #3 Response

The Nike Chief Design Officer, John Hoke, discusses his laid back approach to shoe design. He talks about how he has dyslexia and used to view it as a curse. He now sees it as a key component to help make new designs each season. He says he doesn't spend much time at his desk, he walks around and discusses with his workers. Together, him and his team, are able to create new designs as the seasons pass. They think of the environment and different materials that will help preserve it.

Homework #2 Response

The amount of time and effort that Niels put into his design is astounding. He worked in multiple professions that required dedication and mindfulness when designing. He said he spent 7 years thinking about how to create the perfect computer chair. He paid close attention to the physics of the human body and he was able to create a chair that reclines with regard to the tailbone. Each part of the chair can be adjusted by pulling that component. This eliminates unnecessary levers. Time and effort can produce a more useful design.
